Spillway is designed to turn an overflowing inbox into a reviewable system for messages, tasks, dates, and files.

Inbox organization

Spillway classifies messages into categories you control. It is designed to support uncertain classifications, review workflows, and multiple accounts rather than forcing every message into one rigid folder structure.

Work Ledger

The Work Ledger surfaces possible requests, commitments, follow-ups, and unresolved work hidden inside email. Items are presented for review so the user remains responsible for deciding what is actually a task.

Dates & Opportunities

Spillway can identify possible deadlines, meetings, registrations, renewals, due dates, and other time-sensitive information. These are surfaced as candidates, not silently treated as authoritative.

Categories

Categories can reflect the user's actual work rather than a vendor-defined taxonomy. Spillway is being designed to support nested categories, account-specific organization, and different review rules for different kinds of mail.

Multiple accounts

Spillway is intended for people who manage personal, professional, institutional, and other accounts at the same time. A unified interface should not require every account to use the same AI provider, synchronization behavior, or privacy rule.

Local and cloud AI

Spillway can use AI running locally on the user's Mac through Ollama, or a cloud provider the user explicitly configures. The long-term design goal is to let those choices vary by account and task.

Attachments and retrieval

Spillway is being designed to make attachments easier to find without requiring the user to remember who sent a file or which thread contained it.

Reminders and review controls

The application includes review-oriented controls so detected work can be accepted, completed, dismissed, or ignored without forcing every automated suggestion into the user's workflow.

Current status

Spillway is pre-alpha software. Some features described here are incomplete or still evolving, and screenshots may reflect work-in-progress interfaces.
